Wheatland FCSS History
The Provincial program began in 1966 as “Preventative Social Services”, in 1981 the name was changed to “Family & Community Support Services”. In Wheatland County an office was opened in the Village of Standard in 1978 with all municipalities in the County participating.
A second office was opened in Strathmore, with two offices being maintained until February 1999 when the Standard Office was closed. In 2013 Wheatland FCSS moved to the County of Wheatland Administration building when the Town Strathmore, after a 34 year partnership, separated to establish their own FCSS.
Wheatland FCSS currently partners with Wheatland County, Village of Hussar, Village of Rockyford and Village of Standard, with representatives from each community comprising the Board of WFCSS.
“Home Support Services” was one of the first programs in WFCSS, starting in 1979. This is a vital program to the community as it provides in-home support to senior and disabled people to allow them to remain in their home rather than move to an institution.
